Proposal at Age UK Bingo Grimsby

Pensioners Get Engaged at Age UK Charity Bingo Game

Get your tissues ready, because this one might just make you shed a happy tear.

A couple of love birds who met at a local bingo night have gone and got engaged, and the groom to be got down on one knee mid-session, at the very place where they first met.

As if this story wasn’t happy enough, the pair in question are both 76 years old, and the bingo night they met at was at their local Age UK.

Nawwwwww!

They are not the first pair to fall head over heels in love and get engaged at the bingo, and they are unlikely to be the last, but could they be the oldest? It’s certainly possible.

Falling in Love at Bingo

It was just before Christmas last year that Dennis and Jenny, both 76, met at a bingo night at the Age UK centre in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire.

The pair hit it off straight away, and Dennis asked Jenny to dinner, where they got to know each other a little better, after which they quickly became an item.

Dennis, who used to work in the mining industry as well as serving with the Royal Engineers, says he was first attracted to Jenny’s smile; Jenny is a former shop worker, and says she wished they had met when they were still in their twenties.

Speaking of the proposal, Dennis said:

“Everything was in the right place, and we just fell in love… We love each other madly. I got on my knees and proposed to her. I got down and said ‘Will you accept this ring for our engagement’ She said ‘Yes’.”

“I proposed to her at Age UK as we both love playing bingo and we go every Monday.”

When Dennis got down on one knee (and kudos for managing that at your age Dennis), the whole room was in shock, but no one was more shocked than Jenny:

“When he proposed I was surprised, more than anything. I love everything about him.”

Isn’t that lovely?

It’s probably safe to say the children are off the cards, Jenny is a great grandmother of 3 and although Dennis has been married twice before, he never became a father.

It sounds like he is marrying into a pretty big family though, so i’m sure they will keep him busy.

Getting Married at a Bingo Hall

Mecca Bingo Wedding

Dennis and Jenny are the latest in a long line of bingo proposals.

In 2017, Steve Heath interrupted a call of Legs 11 to propose to his then girlfriend, Ellen Copnell, at a bingo hall in Didcot.

Their relationship bloomed out of tragedy, after the loss of Ellen’s husband who was also Steve’s best friend brought them closer together.

In the same year, a couple from the Wirral got engaged at the Mecca in Birkenhead, and a video of the proposal went viral.

Kayleigh Delamare and Aaron Stopp had met on a dating site 7 months previously, and Aaron decided to pop the question on the day with absolutely no prior planning.

There have even been proposals at online bingo, via webcams.

Given Dennis and Jenny met at bingo, and got engaged at bingo, I wonder where they will get married?

It is actually possible to get married at the bingo as well, although perhaps not at Age UK in Grimsby.

Mecca have a marriage license, but the nearest Mecca to Grimsby is in Hull so that might be a bit of a slog for the happy couple – especially at their age.

Perhaps they would be allowed to have the after party at Age UK where they met though, wouldn’t that just round things off nicely?
